Per announcement Friday May 30, 2025,steel and aluminum imports into the U.S. will jump from 25% to 50% - set to go into effect at 12:01 AM  June 4, 2025. This jump is not only expected to have effects for manufacturers that use raw steel and aluminum, but also downstream effects upon finished goods - from car parts to canned goods to chairs. Even sectors that do not manufacture steel or aluminum goods could be affected as they may still need steel or aluminum parts to run machinery.

  • Steel and Aluminum imports from the U.K will stay at 25% until July 9.

  • Canada and Mexico, two of the biggest exporters by volume of steel to the U.S., are not exempt from this additional tariff.

We are continuing to monitor the statistics, reports, and estimates from experts in the field and will report updates. However, our advice remains the same drumbeat; the best advisors to talk to are the vendors and importers handling the transport of these goods into the U.S.. Importer companies and the vendors themselves are better able to advise on which components of the products - if any - may be subject to the new tariffs, taxes, and fees and can help make plans accordingly.
